General Gameplay Summary

League Message
TC United would like to remind parents, coaches, and players that above everything else recreational soccer is an environment that encourages fun, pressure-free, and educational play. Sportsmanship and fair play provide the foundation of our program. Scores and standings are not kept, college scholarships are not won on the recreational field, and at the end of the day the game is for the kids. Fighting, disrespecting officials, and intentional dangerous play will not be tolerated.
Gameplay
Unless specified in the sections below all current FIFA rules are in play. Please bear in mind that in order to improve the quality of soccer it is recommended that every player plays every position during the season. It is also mandatory that every recreational player plays no less than %50 of the game. TC United would also like to encourage its players that it's perfectly acceptable to make mistakes. Lastly the most important thing is that the players have fun and NOT the result of the game.
Reminder from your Child
  • I'm a Kid
  • It's just a Game
  • My Coach is a Volunteer
  • The Officials are Human
  • No College Scholarships will be Handed out Today

U4 to U7 Game Rules

Gameplay
Games will played in a 4 v 4 environment. It is recommended that players be placed initially in a 1-2-1 shape - and resume that shape at each stoppage.
Encourage that all players play offense and defense. Do NOT force players to "stay-back." Players should get used to moving from offense to defense.
Sportsmanship
Parents and Coaches should both encourage and cheer for ALL players on the field. Players and Coaches shall shake hands at the end of each match.
Field of Play
The field of play is no larger than 20x40yards. Center circle, goal box, and corner arc will be marked.
Game Length
Each match will consist of 2 twenty minute halves with a five minute half time.
The Ball
The ball shall be a size 3, and is to be supplied by the home team.
The Plus One Rule
When any team does not have four players at the field at match time the coaches may:
  • Elect for both teams to play with fewer players.
  • The full team must only play one more player than the opposing team has available.
  • The coaches may elect to reschedule the match.
Equipment
Shin guards MUST be worn; tennis shoes or cleats without a toe cleat may be worn. NO jewelry of any kind may be worn (Including rubber bracelets).
Subtstitions
Substitutions will be made at any stoppage in play, and should be made often. Each player shall play a minimum of 50% of the match.
Goalkeepers
There will be no goalkeepers.
Throw-Ins/Kick-Ins
Kick-ins are encouraged to be taken for the U4 and U5 age divisions. However, coaches should do their best to LIMIT the number of stoppages in the game. Rule of thumb here is if the ball is just barely out and play can continue - LET IT! Kids have more fun with fewer stoppages in play.
Throw-ins are encouraged to be taken for the U6 and U7 age divisions. Coaches should encourage players to develop proper form, utilize do-overs according to player’s developmental ability. (If the player does not have the motor skills necessary to make a proper throw in DO NOT make the player take the throw in again).
Free Kicks
All free kicks shall be indirect free kicks. There shall be no direct free kicks. A goal may not be scored directly from an indirect free kick, rather it must be touched by a second player before a goal can be scored. If the ball goes in goal directly from an indirect free kick, a goal kick is awarded to the defending team.
Penalty Kicks
There are NO Penalty kicks.
Offside Rule
The offside rule is NOT enforced.
Coaches
A coach from each team will be on the field, and will referee. All rule infringements shall be briefly explained to the offending player. Do overs should be allowed regularly, but not to impede the progress of the match or its enjoyment.
